The San Diego Comicon is over and I’m back safe in Seattle.
Before I write up a big post about the show, I need some time to decompress. But I do want to blog the big announcement that Kris and I made on Saturday.
Kris and I are going to be creating an original animated webseries for Namco Bandai’s Shiftylook.com. For those of you unfamiliar, Namco has been teaming up with talented writers and artists to revitalize their library of video game properties as webcomics. And now they’re branching out into animation starting with our new webseires, Mappy: The Beat.
That’s right, Mappy.
Mappy was a 1983 platform game featuring Mappy the police mouse who had to run around a mansion of evil cats called mewskies to recover stolen art and goods. You may not be familiar with it, but it was a very important game ot me during my high-school years. I didn’t have a ton of friends in high-school but I did know someone who worked at a pizza place across from our campus. And we would hang out there all the time, well after closing time. I spent many hours playing Mappy at that pizza joint. So when the guys at Shiftylook showed me a list of available characters, and I saw Mappy, I went nuts.
Our series is tentiviely titled Mappy: The Beat and I can’t tell you a whole lot about it yet. But what I can tell you is that Mappy’s days as a beat cop are well behind him and he’s now a security guard at an office populated by video game characters down on their luck. We’re going to do this in the blamimation style with our good friend Mary “Cubewatermelon” Cagle helping out with the art assets.
I will absolutely let you know more about this project as soon as I’m able to.
So stay tuned.
